# Adjusting the corset bodice on a wedding dress

> The corset bodice sets the hold and the silhouette — lacing, boning and layers all have to sit right. We adjust it so the dress holds without digging in. Bodice on request, usually in one to two working days, at all our workshops.

## Prepare the corset bodice for the fitting

So the hold and fit are right on the first go.

1. **Wear the right underwear** — Wear the bra or bustier you'll have under the dress — it noticeably changes how the bodice sits.
2. **Put on the wedding shoes** — Shoes change your posture and the length, and with it how the bodice sits.
3. **Bring someone to lace it** — The bodice is laced — a second person helps you in and out and with tightening.
4. **Mark what digs in or gapes** — Tell us exactly where it pulls, digs in or gapes — that's where we work.
5. **Come by appointment** — For bridal by appointment — we take time to pin the bodice calmly.

## What the corset bodice does

The corset bodice (often just called the corset) gives a wedding dress its hold: lacing and built-in boning shape the waist, support the bust and carry the weight of the skirt and train. When it sits right, the dress holds all day — strapless and dancing included. When it sits badly, the dress slips, creases or digs in. This is where an adjustment pays off most.

## What we adjust on the bodice

The most common work on a corset bodice.

- Lacing tighter or looser — for hold without pressure.
- Adding or repositioning boning so nothing rolls or gapes.
- Adjusting bust and waist to your measurements.
- Aligning layers and lining cleanly.
- Combining zip and lacing where both are present.
- Securing a strapless fit so nothing slips.

## Lacing, boning and hold

The lacing at the back makes the bodice adjustable over several centimetres — ideal if your measurements still change slightly before the day. The boning stops the bodice rolling or creasing and provides the hold. Under the lacing there's usually a modesty panel covering the skin. We balance lacing, boning and layers so the bodice supports without cutting in.

## Strapless and heavy fabric

Strapless dresses live and die by the bodice — it alone holds the top up. Heavy skirts, long trains and multi-layered tulle pull down as well. We reinforce the boning and seams where needed so nothing slips. But we'll also say openly when a very heavy skirt is too much for a delicate bodice — better an honest solution than a dress that won't last the day.

## Frequently asked questions about the corset bodice

### What does adjusting the bodice cost?

On request — lacing, boning and layers differ from dress to dress. We give you the firm price after the fitting.

### Can the bodice be taken in?

Yes. The lacing already makes it adjustable; beyond that we take in bust and waist permanently so the fit is right.

### Will a strapless dress hold securely?

With a properly adjusted bodice, yes. We reinforce boning and seams so the top stays put, dancing included.

### What is the boning?

The stiffening in the bodice — slim stays in the seams that stop it rolling or creasing and provide the hold.

### How long does it take?

Usually one to two working days. Elaborate bodices with many layers can take longer — we tell you at the fitting.

### Do I need an appointment?

For bridal, please book an appointment — that way we can pin the bodice calmly. Appointments at all our workshops.
